Thin picks are often needed for narrow keyways and work very well with top of keyway tension.
With a pick that is 0.025 you can often pick the entire center line of the lock working from the base of the keyway to the pins. These 0.025 picks are very flexible and strong and do maintain their shape under use. Standard picks are 0.025 thick.
